FREE NARS Makeup on Your Birthday This Year!

If you are a beauty product junkie like myself and have not signed up for Sephora’s Beauty Insider club yet, sign up in store! It is free to join! When you join their free rewards program to become a Beauty Insider, you will get free beauty classes, product rewards, access to seasonal promotions, and a free birthday gift every year! As far as I know, each year’s birthday gift is the same all year across all stores. Since my birthday is today (February 25th), which is so early in the year, I thought I would share this year’s Sephora Beauty Insider birthday gift for those who want to know what gorgeous makeup lies ahead this year.

This year's FREE Beauty Insider birthday gift from Sephora.

This year’s FREE Beauty Insider birthday gift from Sephora.

This year’s Sephora Beauty Insider birthday gift is two NARS Lip Pencils, which are only slightly (about 30%) smaller than full size. There is a Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in “Cruella” and a Satin Lip Pencil in “Rikugien”. I am so impressed with this year’s Beauty Insider birthday gift from Sephora, because lip products are my favourite makeup items. Also, there is a generous amount of product in this year’s gift (there is about just over $40 worth of product in total) and the lip pencil colours will work wonderfully with a variety of different skin tones.

Let us start with my favourite of the two, the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in “Cruella”. This scarlet red lipstick applies very smoothly and opaquely on the lips. Oftentimes, lipsticks with a matte finish make lips look dry and they need to be paired with a lip gloss on top. However, this lip pencil does not make my lips look dry at all. It has an amazing creamy and buttery application. It also has great staying power on the lips with amazing and opaque pigmentation. This lip pencil is definitely up there with my favourite red lipsticks!

The other lip pencil in this gift set is the Satin Lip Pencil in “Rikugien”. While I would consider buying the “Cruella” Velvet Matte Lip Pencil after I run out, I would not consider purchasing this one on my own. On me, it has a nice my-lips-but-better colour, but the colour payoff is just too sheer for my liking. However, this colour would be nice for balancing out a heavy eye makeup look. In brief, this lip colour is nice to get as a gift, because I would never purchase the full-size version of this for $31 CAD, especially when it also requires sharpening every now and then.

I should also mention that when you sign up for free to become a Beauty Insider at Sephora, you get a point for every dollar spent there. You can earn product rewards with these points and upgrade your Beauty Insider status with these points. Earning at least 350 points (i.e. spending at least $350) in a calendar year will get you Very Important Beauty Insider (VIB) status. As a VIB member, you get “all Beauty Insider benefits, first dibs on new products, seasonal VIB-only gifts, advance access to sales, and private VIB-only shopping events”. If you earn at least 1000 points (i.e. spend at least $1000) in a calendar year, you get upgraded to VIB Rouge status. As a VIB Rouge member, you get “all Beauty Insider benefits, all VIB benefits, free shipping on all US and Canada orders, unlimited access to The Beauty Studio, exclusive Rouge events, and special gifts”. Even if you are not planning to spend that much at Sephora, if anything at all, in a calendar year, just sign up for their free Beauty Insider program to get your free and awesome birthday gift this year! 🙂
